Architect Michael Green presented for Architizer's Future Fest talk today. As designers we all have a multitude of varying issues on our minds: global/community issues, practice issues, project issues and profession issues to tackle. Why do we do what we do? It's not for monetary gain, status or fame. We practice for love; the love we give from our day to day efforts to help make the lives of others better. This is what is fulfilling and provides joy.
How does architecture play a role in our current world of shifting economics, global conflict, a rapidly changing climate and environment, and distressing social division?
As design professionals, we must ask ourselves if we are addressing these social, political, environmental and economic realities in our work or are we simply trying to hold our heads above water?
With so many issues to confront, how do we become leaders again, maintain our industry's voice and create change without becoming overwhelmed? How do we champion a greener, friendlier, more connected, more dynamic and more vibrant future?
